Veronica's Story

Part of what inspired me to continue to write poems is my own life story, one that I would like to share briefly with you.  I had a beautiful daughter, my first born, Veronica Noelle Bissonette. She was born January 6, 2004. She literally looked like a little angel with her perfect face and beautiful hands and body. We spent three glorious months with her, and than on April 20, 2004, she was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a genetic disease, which the doctors told us would take her life within two years. Our world fell apart, this couldn’t be happening to our beautiful baby daughter, who we loved more than life itself. We didn’t know how we were going to make it through the pain and grief, which both were so unbearable for a very long time. I felt that God was providing super strength and support.

Veronica's absence will always be a part of me, but according to my faith I know will be reunited one day with her. We therefore have a joy from within, only because of our knowledge of seeing our beautiful little girl again. We did have five wonderful and loving months with her. “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in your book they were all written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them” (Psalm 139:16). Veronica was so personable and had such a loving spirit. She taught so many lessons in this life, as well as to every one else that met her; no one ever wanted to leave her side.

Veronica did pass away peacefully, at 1:20 pm on a sunny Sunday afternoon, June 6, 2004. The room was full of angels, and they took her safely to our Lord in heaven. I held her for a long time, and prayed and prayed to God. Part of me died that day with her, howeverwe now joyfully await our reunion with her in heaven, and can’t wait to see her.

These poems here are for her and dedicated to her. I hope you will allow her pictures and poems to flow over you, and bless you with God’s love, peace and hope. If you have experienced child loss, or are grieving from another loss, my sincerest hope is that you will know that you are not alone, look to heaven where the God of all comfort lives. “God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted” Matthew 5:4.
